Term 3 Week 5

KL Maths Challenge
Year 8 boarders Max, Dream and Sonny represented Nexus in the KL Maths Challenge last weekend. The boys and their team had a great day attempting to answer a variety of maths equations.

Batu Caves Trip
Mr Brian and Mr Alex took a van load of boarders on a day trip to Batu Caves. They started relatively early in the morning to avoid the midday heat and on arrival those who had not been before were amazed by the size of the Murugan statue.

On the approach to the caves, a man was asking tourists to carry up buckets of sand to the top of the steps. Most of our boarders opted to carry some and kudos must be given to Alex Gu who carried two, as well as Hafiz and Aqeel who also carried two despite being on their first day of fasting. Once the buckets were dropped off at the top, the boarders were left to explore for 20 minutes. Some bought snacks and drinks, while others went as far back into the cave as possible, viewing the temples and rock formations.

We arranged for a tour on the Dark Cave which is full of endangered and endemic species, our tour guide showed us spiders, bats and talked about snakes, stalactites, and stalagmites. The cave is now a conservation reserve, protected under law so it was vital that we tread carefully and followed instructions. At one point we were asked to turn all of the torches off. This plunged us into complete darkness, so much that you could not even see your hand in front of your face. A few of the boarders were a little scared of this!

Once our tour was over, we walked back down the hundreds of steps. This was in many ways more scary than walking up, mainly because it is easier to see how high you were! The scattering of monkeys running and climbing around kept us amused, particularly Takuto who had has water bottle snatched by one.

We finished our day trip with lunch and some shopping at 1 Utama Shopping Centre.
