David Griffiths: Head of Primary

David Griffiths was appointed Head of School of Nexus International School in August 2007, and spent a full-year preparing for the opening of the only international school in Putrajaya in September 2008. Originally from Manchester, England, Mr Griffiths, an Economics graduate from Birmingham Polytechnic, has over 15 years of experience as an educator and holds a PGCE in Primary Education. Mr Griffiths started off as a Primary School teacher in England before moving to Modern English School in Cairo where he was in charge of Science throughout the school. In 1999, Mr Griffiths became the Head of Primary at Garden International School Kuantan (Malaysia). He then moved to Spain, where he was Head of Primary at British School of Cordoba.

When there were plans to open a new international school in Putrajaya under the management of Garden International School, Mr Griffiths who comes with 12 years of experience in international teaching, was the first choice. Nexus International School is a school of the future and uses the IPC curricula and ICT in everyday learning. As Head of Primary, Mr Griffiths has contributed in establishing the curricula, overseeing the facilities, the enrolment, and looks into the rapid expansion plans for the school which includes the opening of the Secondary School in 2009.
Katrina Huish: Year 1N Teacher and Key Stage 1 Leader

Katrina is an experienced, enthusiastic and conscientious teacher who develops positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents. She is a firm believer in the education of the whole child and she creates a caring, supportive learning environment in which her children flourish. She values equally all the talents that the children bring to the classroom and adapts her teaching to reflect the different learning styles. Katrina has a wealth of experience, both in the classroom and in management; she puts maximum effort into raising both the individual achievements of her learners and the overall standards of the school. She aims to provide a truly global and integrated curriculum in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
Ann Lee: Year 1N Assistant Teacher

Ann graduated with diplomas in Business Administration and St.Nicholas Montessori Early Childhood Education. She started teaching in schools around Malacca as well as Kuala Lumpur for over 6 years. The passion to teach has motivated Ann to gain further understanding in children's development and she believes that adults, whether parents or teachers are the life pillars of the children in their learning about the world and she is dedicated to provide her learners with an enriching learning experience.
Gail Johnston: Year 1E Teacher

Gail is originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland and has 10 years teaching experience in both the UK and Singapore. She decribes herself as an open-minded, outgoing and enthusiastic Primary teacher with a background in Key Stage One and Two. She believes that self-esteem and confidence are key to successful learning and encourages every child by positively recognising and celebrating individual differences, achievements and aspirations. Gail enjoys all aspects of the curriculum with a special interest in Primary Science and Personal Development and Mutual Understanding. Her personal interests include yoga, reading, travelling and spending time with her family.
Jaime Loh: Year 1E Assistant Teacher

Jaime loves working with children and a firm believer in overall children development. Her TESOL (Teaching English as a second language) background will benefit students, particularly those who are adopting English as their second language. She strongly believes in a student centered way of teaching. This method will gear the students toward real life learning as opposed to absorbing what has been taught. She also believes that ICT is an essential part of learning and should be incorporated through out the education system. A keen enthusiast for art and crafts, she also loves cooking, baking, skiing, swimming and all sorts of out door activities.
Julie Campbell: Year 2N Teacher

Julie is a dedicated, experienced primary school teacher, who has worked in a wide variety of schools across the United Kingdom. As a life-long learner, Julie is very much enjoying teaching at Nexus International School. She brings a creative and enthusiastic approach to child-centred learning. Julie endeavours to enable the children in her care to become critical thinkers, problem solvers and independent learners. Her teaching style recognises individuality and she believes that each child has a special talent. She enjoys new challenges and like the children, is always keen to‘have a go’. Julie firmly believes that it’s important for everyone to grow and learn, to experience new environments and methods of teaching and learning.
Marie Ng: Year 2N Assistant Teacher

Filled with passion for learning, exploring and teaching languages, Marie joins Nexus International School to experience teaching in an international setting. She is especially keen in the areas of art and craft, history, cultural studies as well as geography. She is confident that the ICT-rich techniques at Nexus International School will play an important role in providing learners with an enriched learning experience.
Sahmalah Sakhtivel: Year 2E Teacher

Sahmalah did her training in New Zealand at Christchurch College of Education. On her return to Malaysia 14 years ago she joined Garden International School. During her time at GIS, Sahmalah has held responsibility roles, which included a Year Leader position and Primary Science Coordinator for five years. She has been involved in several working parties and has successfully organised several workshops for both staff and parents. Sahmalah sees herself as a facilitator who believes in Personalised Learning, providing an individual programme tailored for the specific developmental needs of each learner. She believes there will be more opportunities to share her vision to prepare learners for the 21st century en route to becoming a life long learner here at Nexus International School.
Navamani d/o Nagappan: Year 2E Assistant Teacher

Navamani graduated with a Bachelor of Education majoring in Guidance and Counseling and has several years experience teaching young children. She believes that proper advice will be able to help guide young children to learn better. As an organised and enthutiastic teacher, she is excited about incorporating ICT knowledge while teaching at Nexus International School.
Joanne Barnes: Year 3N Teacher

Passionate about teaching and a believer in encouraging student's learning, Joanne's classroom is a place where all children feel welcomed, accepted, valued and where diversity is celebrated. Joanne recognises and nurtures each child's individuality, providing a classroom programme that develops exploration and growth so that each child will discover their own unique role as a global citizen. Joanne's interests include reading, cooking, travelling and spending time with her family.
Claire Waller: Year 3E Teacher

Claire feels that school should be an exciting place to be, a place where children love to learn, are highly motivated, happy and confident. She joins Nexus International School with over 13 years teaching experience gained in both large and small schools across the UK. Prior to joining Nexus, Claire was responsible for teaching a whole Key Stage Two class in a school recently judged by OFSTED as 'Outstanding'. In 2005 she was selected by the Local Education Authority to work as a 'Leading Teacher' specialising in science. Claire believes in using a range of teaching styles to meet the needs of all learners and has great deal of experience catering for a wide range of abilities.
Erin Wolf: Year 4N Teacher

Erin is very much enjoying teaching at Nexus International School. Before coming to Nexus, Erin gained five years of teaching experience in her home country of the USA and in China. Erin believes in creating learning situations in which children are exposed to authentic tasks that can be reflected in their lives outside of the classroom. Also, she believes that a key part of learning is enjoyment, so she tries to look at all opportunities with a positive attitude and a bit of laughter. In her spare time, she loves to travel, read and spend time outdoors. Most importantly, she truly enjoys being a teacher.
Lindsey Banks: Year 4E Teacher

Originally from England, Lindsey has over 10 years of teaching experience and has previously taught in the UK, United Arab Emirates, Spain, USA and Romania. Lindsey is passionate about teaching and strives to challenge her learners through interesting and engaging activities. She believes in creating a secure learning environment for her class and takes pride in her interactive classroom displays. Lindsey wants her students to feel happy, confident and relaxed in their bright classroom. Lindsey enjoys travelling and is looking forward to exploring more of Malaysia and South East Asia during her holidays.
Patrick Kennedy: Year 5N Teacher

Patrick is originally from New Zealand, but has lived overseas for the past nine years. Prior to joining Nexus International School, he has taught in England, Thailand, New Zealand and Romania. He has held a variety of teaching positions and enjoys teaching in international schools; liking the diversity and challenges they bring. He is a fan of most outdoor sports including football, scuba diving and plays rugby for Royal Selangor Club.
Jennifer Northam: Year 5E Teacher

Jennifer has been teaching in and around Bristol for four years, from Reception to Year 6. She firmly believes that children should be offered a creative and meaningful topic based education, through which they can apply their skills across the curriculum. She also believes in encouraging independent learners through facilitating challenging, enjoyable and rewarding tasks. Jennifer describes herself as a positive, creative and dedicated person who loves to travel.
Symond Russell: Year 6N Teacher and Key Stage 2 Leader

Born in Ipswich, England, Symond has previously taught in Bristol, Cambodia and Kuantan, Malaysia. He is a strong believer in the use of ICT to extend and engage learners and is investigating how learners use Web 2.0 tools to learn collaboratively for his Masters of Education. Through real-life tasks, emphasis on personal development and thinking skills, Symond prepares his learners for their journey of life-long learning. A firm believer in a holistic education, he himself is a keen tennis player and scuba diver, and also loves travelling, food and listening to music.
Heather Brown: Year 6E Teacher

Heather, a Canadian citizen, has a great love for teaching and learning she aims to share with students. While teaching in China, she was part of a team encouraging inquiry learning, development of global citizens and life-long learners. With a strong background in computer science, IT is often incorporated into lessons as a tool to aid learning and as a means for students to share their work. Heather was drawn to Nexus International School by its promise to foster the talents and gifts of its students. She intends to uphold this promise and help her students reach their potential.
David Barnes: Physical Education Teacher and CCA Coordinator

An Australian citizen, David has been at Nexus International School for the past two years and enjoys teaching in the dynamic learning environment. His approach to teaching encourages children to develop themselves as learners in a non-threatening environment and encourages them to take risks. He is looking forward to continue the exciting PE programme at Nexus International School.
Elizabeth Neil: EAL/Mandarin Teacher

Before coming to Nexus International School, Lizzy taught in schools and universities throughout Japan, England, Australia, Cambodia and Malaysia and these experiences around the world have given her a love for languages. She leads EAL at Nexus and is working towards building a school culture where EAL is embedded in every aspect of teaching and learning at Nexus. Lizzy has enjoyed using opportunities to teach with ICT at Nexus, both in an EAL capacity and as a Mandarin teacher. An active person, her passions include scubadiving, cooking, reading and spending time with her family.
Wong Yee Ping: Mandarin Teacher

Yee Ping joins Nexus International School as she believes in striving for excellence in the pursuit of knowledge and youth development of all nationalities. The multi-national and multi-cultural community at Nexus serves as an ideal platform for her to share her interactive approaches to learning Mandarin with the international learners. She enjoys working with children and growing with them. She believes the best reward is to be able to help learners achieve their fullest potential within and outside the classroom.
Ranofla Dianti: Bahasa MalaysiaTeacher

Dianti graduated from Akademi Seni Kebangsaan (ASWARA) for Creative Writing Diploma, University Putra Malaysia for B.A in Malay Linguistics and University Kebangsaan Malaysia for M.A in Malay Literature. She has been actively writing in local newspapers and magazines about the Malay theatre and film industry for the past 12 years. Armed with her friendly personality, she is looking forward to explore new and interactive ways to learn Bahasa Malaysia at Nexus International School.
Zunizan (Nizam) bin Samat: Bahasa MalaysiaTeacher

Nizam graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia with a B.A in Linguistic and Communication. Before he started teaching Bahasa Malaysia five years ago, he was a writer and editor for a magazine. He is also an accomplished writer and has several novels published. He is excited about integrating his teaching style with the enriching ICT experience here at Nexus International School. He looks forward to introduce the beauty and wonders of Malaysia to the global community of Nexus International School.
Loren Jacobson: Music Teacher

Loren has taught music to children from the early years through to Secondary school in the United States, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. He attended the University of Wisconsin where he earned his Bachelor of Music. Loren enjoys teaching and studying music, playing the guitar, working with technology, swimming, biking, playing pool, learning new languages. He enjoys being a part of an excellent school with an extensive music program that will inspire learners to excel, instill good attitudes and contribute to the confidence they bring to all areas of their lives.
Shaun Russell: Librarian

Shaun began his career as a librarian in Australia and has since worked in various roles as a teacher librarian, humanities and theory of knowledge teacher in Vanuatu, Indonesia and now Malaysia. At Nexus International School, he is keen to develop an innovative school library with an environment where learners, as well as teachers and parents are made to feel welcome. He is passionate about connecting young people with books and information that interest them through a diverse collection and a warm welcoming learning environment. He is also committed to teaching learners’ web literacy and research skills that will enable them to find, identify, evaluate and use quality information in independent, creative and high-level ways. He is naturally a keen reader but is currently enjoying most of his spare time with his infant son.
