Dr Stuart Martin: Principal and Head of Secondary
Dr Martin is from the South Island of New Zealand and attended university in Christchurch. Following graduation, Dr Martin taught at secondary schools across New Zealand before emigrating to UK. During his stay in London, he continued teaching at secondary level. He was a Head of Department and then a Head of House with the responsibility for the academic progress of students. At the same time, Dr Martin obtained a doctorate in education at Bristol University. Subsequently, he returned to New Zealand and in 2001, he was appointed Principal of Onslow College, one of New Zealand's leading coeducational schools.
With more than 30 years of teaching experience, Dr Martin has a specific interest in personalising learning for students so that they can achieve their fullest potential. He is also committed to new approaches to learning, especially integrating IT in teaching & learning, and a broad curriculum that offers young people the opportunity to develop in academic, social, cultural and sporting areas. |

Steven Pearce: Head of IT and Deputy Head of Secondary (KS4)
Steven has been teaching for over 15 years both in the UK and internationally. His teaching career started in the UK where he became Head of ICT - teaching ICT, Business and Economics. He left the UK in the year 2000 to become the ICT coordinator and Head of Key Stage 4 at the British School of Manila in the Philippines. Following this, he then moved on to Kings College in Auckland, New Zealand where he took on a similar role. Prior to coming to the Nexus International School, Steven was Head of the Upper Senior School at the British Curriculum School in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where he was involved with the integration of ICT into the curriculum and developing school systems. He believes in integrating IT into teaching and learning by providing a stimulating innovative technological environment where all learners can become responsible digital citizens. Steven enjoys international travel and is passionate about South East Asian cultures, food and history. |

Kerry Harper: Head of English and Deputy Head of Secondary (KS3)
Kerry has 8 years' experience teaching, both in the UK and internationally, and is enjoying the challenges and thrills that Nexus International School and life in Malaysia bring. She believes that empowering pupils to become independent, life-long learners is an essential part of her role as teacher and loves making use of drama and multi-media activities to bring lessons to life. The opportunities that KnowledgeNet offer the English classroom are aiding her in her goals to achieve personalised learning for all. Kerry also makes full use of the school library, regularly reading teenage fiction in order to encourage all of the Nexus learners to do the same. She is, naturally, an avid reader who is often to be found with her nose in a book but who also holds a passion for experimental (although not always successful) cookery. |

Abena Bailey: English Teacher
Having taught in quite a few locations, from Poland to Thailand and the UK, Abena is thrilled to be teaching at Nexus International School, where the ethos is all about the students' learning styles and personal development. She believes it takes a lot more than good grades to make a successful global citizen. Therefore, she is very excited about teaching in the international environment of Nexus, where she hopes to foster a love of English as well as helping learners to realise their own potential in all aspects of life. She believes in lifelong learning, and having just completed a Masters in Education, is looking for the next challenge to keep her teaching fresh and relevant. She is passionate about teaching and delighted that this also allows her and her growing family to experience such a diverse culture as Malaysia and become fully participant members of the community in school and beyond. |

Suzy Pugh: Head of Humanities
A teacher for nine years at secondary schools in Lincolnshire, UK, Suzy is an enthusiastic teacher whose ethos is based upon developing enquiry and thinking skills. She wants learners to enjoy learning and utilises appropriate, differentiated tasks to achieve this. She strives to produce an environment that promotes an atmosphere of learning, openness and success. She believes that every learner will have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. Learners are encouraged to ask questions and embrace the challenge of finding answers, whether working as individuals or as part of a team. Suzy believes the classroom should not be the end of learning for learners or teachers, and is utilising Nexus International School's cross-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities and activities as tools to enrich the learning experience. A keen swimmer and football supporter, Suzy enjoys exploring Malaysia's wide and varied environments, and hopefully gaining her PADI diving qualification. |

James Tipney: Humanities Teacher
James' teaching career began in his home country, the UK, and has since taken him to the UAE, Bahrain and now Malaysia. He loves teaching and learning about people, cultures and the past. His passion for history has led him on many adventures abroad; from the mountains of Yemen to the battlefields of France. James brings his enthusiasm for history right into the classroom and to the heart of his teaching. He firmly believes that in order for effective learning to take place children must be excited and inspired by the topic they are studying. He therefore attempts to create a friendly, humorous and inquisitive environment in his classroom, which aims to make learning accessible to all learners. |

Amy Liversidge: Head of Science
British born Amy graduated from Portsmouth University with a degree in Marine Biology. She has taught Science in British state schools for 6 years; 2 years of which as Director of Science. Amy inculcates students with a sense of enquiry and curiosity. Her passion for teaching and love of the subject is reflected in her fun, energetic and stimulating lessons. Amy appreciates the opportunities that the natural environment in Malaysia will offer her and her students. |

Joel Conner: Science Teacher
Joel was originally from Lincolnshire, England and graduated with a BSc in Ecology from Leeds University. He previously taught Science in a large state school in the UK for four years, and was the Intervention Coordinator. He is passionate about maximising the potential of his learners and also loves immersing himself in the natural world as well as sports. He hopes to incorporate the tropical environment into his teaching and encourage learners to participate in a variety of sporting activities. He is excited about exploring the diverse cultural, culinary and natural experiences that Malaysia has to offer.

Sonny Feng: Head of Mathematics
Sonny is an enthusiastic Mathematics teacher with over seven years of teaching experience; he spent five years in New Zealand and two years in England before moving to Putrajaya, Malaysia. Having worked in traditional New Zealand schools, he is enjoying the challenges of working in an international environment. He believes in a firm but fair approach to classroom management with an emphasis on developing mathematical thinking skills that will be invaluable in the world arena. He is enjoying teaching at Nexus International School and loves exploring the region. |

John Lee: Mathematics Teacher
John Lee has been a Mathematics teacher for over 20 years and has worked in the UK, Zimbabwe, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and India, before moving to Putrajaya, Malaysia. In his previous schools, he has taken a wide range of responsibilities including Head of Department, Boarding Parent and Outdoor Pursuits Coordinator. A firm believer in the need for students to become independent learners, he tries to encourage them to discover results for themselves, take risks in their thinking and not be afraid of making mistakes. John enjoys the stimulation of working in an international environment and is keen to explore the culture of Malaysia with his wife and four children. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and exercising in the gym. He also enjoys writing and had his first novel published in 2008. |

Cathal McHugh: Head of Physical Education
Cathal is a PE professional who believes strongly that sports has something to offer to everyone. He believes that every learner, regardless of age, race, gender or sporting ability can be successful and enjoy their PE lessons. Cathal had trained for over four years to become a highly qualified and skilled PE teacher. He had previously taught for five years in several schools in the UK. The coaching qualifications that he holds are in Trampolining, Football, Rugby, Tennis, Cricket, Orienteering and Basketball. Cathal is trained to deliver an extensive and wide curriculum to cater for the needs of every learner at Nexus International School. He is a keen Rugby player and a Tri-athlete, and has participated in marathons in cities such as New York, Paris and London. He has traveled the world and his travels have brought him to South and North America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and parts of South East Asia. |

Mauro Brooks: Art Teacher
Mauro is an experienced and enthusiastic Art teacher from the UK. He graduated from the Wimbledon School of Art and then worked as an Art Director and stage designer in London. He has been teaching in international schools for over 11 years; travelling to Rome, Italy and Mumbai, India. He enjoys working with Nexus International School learners, developing their artistic potential and widening their knowledge in Information Technology with some Computer-Aided Design techniques. |

Loren Jacobson: Music Teacher
Loren has taught music to children from the early years through to Secondary school in the United States, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. He attended the University of Wisconsin where he earned his Bachelor of Music. Loren enjoys teaching and studying music, playing the guitar, working with technology, swimming, biking, playing pool, learning new languages. He enjoys being a part of an excellent school with an extensive music program that will inspire learners to excel, instill good attitudes and contribute to the confidence they bring to all areas of their lives. |

Angela Mutinda: Learning Support
Angela brings both enthusiasm and passion to the teaching team and learners of Nexus International School. She has over 13 years of teaching experience across the globe, including countries such as Kenya, China and the UK. Her commitment to learners is reflected in her teaching philosophy; if a child cannot learn from the way he is taught, then he should be taught in a way that he can learn. Angela believes in equipping her learners with the necessary tools and strategies to give them the opportunity to learn the best they can and face challenges whether in academic, social or behavioural with the support, praise and encouragement provided by their immediate environment. Angela is a keen traveller and runner, and she is greatly inspired by her family, friends and colleagues. |

Elizabeth Neil: EAL/Mandarin Teacher
Before coming to Nexus International School, Lizzy taught in schools and universities throughout Japan, England, Australia, Cambodia and Malaysia and these experiences around the world have given her a love for languages. She leads EAL at Nexus and is working towards building a school culture where EAL is embedded in every aspect of teaching and learning at Nexus. Lizzy has enjoyed using opportunities to teach with ICT at Nexus, both in an EAL capacity and as a Mandarin teacher. An active person, her passions include scubadiving, cooking, reading and spending time with her family. |

Wong Yee Ping: Mandarin Teacher
Yee Ping joins Nexus International School as she believes in striving for excellence in the pursuit of knowledge and youth development of all nationalities. She has been actively writing in local newspapers and magazines about the Malay theatre and film industry for over 12 years. Nizam graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia with a B.A in Linguistic and Communication. Before he started teaching Bahasa Malaysia five years ago, he was a writer and editor for a magazine. He is also an accomplished writer and has several novels published. He is excited about integrating his teaching style with the enriching ICT experience here at Nexus International School. Shaun Russell: Librarian
Shaun began his career as a librarian in Australia and has since worked in various roles as a teacher librarian, humanities and theory of knowledge teacher in Vanuatu, Indonesia and now Malaysia. At Nexus International School, he is keen to develop an innovative school library with an environment where learners, as well as teachers and parents are made to feel welcome. He is passionate about connecting young people with books and information that interest them through a diverse collection and a warm welcoming learning environment. He is also committed to teaching learners’ web literacy and research skills that will enable them to find, identify, evaluate and use quality information in independent, creative and high-level ways. He is naturally a keen reader but is currently enjoying most of his spare time with his infant son. |
