IGCSE Results: Nexus Malaysia Celebrates excellence!

Aug 30, 2016
Hot on the heels of last week’s news announcing our graduating IB learners’ recent achievements, we are also now celebrating some excellent IGCSE results.

90.36% of the IGCSE examinations taken by our 66 learners achieved A*-C grade. 42.93% of our learners achieved A*/A (over two times higher than the UK average which was around 21%), with a superb 18.51% scoring the highest A* grade.

Behind the numbers there were some fantastic individual performances too. Cicely Guillouet achieved 11 A* grades, whilst there were other top performances: Johanna Jarkulishovca (8 A*s); Zhariff Hazali & Kirsty Tay (both with 7 A*s); Dana Jung, Yuanbei Lim, Lakshman Manny and Pranav Nair (all with 5 A*s).

We are absolutely thrilled with our results this year, not least by the number of learners who have surpassed their predicted grades. This success is a great testament to the learners’ own hard work, coupled with the enormous support given by the teaching staff. Indeed, Mr David Griffiths spoke warmly of his personal joy at seeing this year’s results, as some of last year’s cohort he had known as young learners in the Primary School.

We are confident that we offer our learners the best possible start in life. Super examination results both at IGCSE and IB mean that Nexus learners have a competitive advantage in securing places at the world’s top universities. Last year’s  Year 11 and Year 13 learners have set a high standard and we are justifiably proud of their achievements.

The improvement in our results is a credit to good teaching, hard work and effective systems. Our task is now to build consistency where our learners regularly attain scores above their predicted. There is real and palpable appetite for success, not just in public examinations, running through the secondary school.

Our congratulations go out to every teacher, every learner and every parent and guardian. Engagement levels were markedly improved last year and we are aiming for more of the same. As always, the focus throughout the school will be on the individual and on ensuring a secure, safe and supported environment in which our learners can thrive. A great school has a powerful ethos. Results like these reveal how embedded that ethos is at Nexus International School Malaysia.
