Amanda is originally from the UK, where she studied in Veterinary Medicine and Zoology BSc (Hons) at the University of Glasgow, before completing her PGCE in Secondary Science Education at the University of Durham. She began her career in the UK before leaving the country to seek work abroad.

She is an experienced IB Biology teacher, who has previously worked in a number of high achieving international schools in UAE, Italy and China. Amanda’s multi-disciplinary studies have given her an unusually large breadth and depth of biological knowledge, which has proved to be invaluable when planning both science lessons and extension projects. She is particularly interested in providing opportunities to challenge Gifted and Talented Science Students, which has led her to complete further training courses in this area.

With this aim in mind she is looking forward to setting up and running a new Extra Curricular Activity at Nexus aimed at providing IB Biology Students with an interest in the Medical Sciences the opportunity to develop their skills in advanced dissection, histology, microbiology and forensics through a series of practical Medical and Forensic Case Studies. Amanda is a passionate believer in providing young people with the opportunities to become involved in giving back to the community, both locally and globally, and is looking forward to working alongside the staff, students and parents of Nexus to continue to develop community projects within the school.

Amanda is very excited about living in Malaysia. She is especially looking forward to exploring Kuala Lumpur, trying the food, seeing orang-utans in the wild, hiking to the top of Mt Kinabalu, and spending many weekends scuba diving.
