Melaka Does Not Disappoint

Friday, October 6, 2017
The annual Melaka trip took place on Saturday, where all boarders supervised by Mr Dan, Ms Sarah, Mr Mark and Mr Peter headed off early Saturday morning for a fun filled day of activities. The coach arrived at a fantastic restaurant which has welcomed us for several years in a row and they were ready to serve a delicious local feast, including a tasty shaved ice dessert. The boarders then had the choice of doing two activities, one being the Menara Taming Sari or the other being The Duck Tour.
The Menara Taming Sari is an 80 metre tall tower that offers panoramic views of Melaka and with the glorious sun shining, the views did not disappoint. Boarders had magnificent views of Melaka including; the Independence Memorial Building, Pulau Selat Mosque and the Melaka Straits.
For those (who perhaps are not lovers of heights), they had the opportunity to see the Melaka sights by the unique ‘Duck Tour’ transport. The Duck is an amphibious truck that can go from the land straight into the water; this was developed by the United States during the WW2. The tour started on land and there was a narration to accompany all of the sights we saw and then once we reached the water we drove straight in; much to the shock of us all. We then continued across the water over the waves and we were able to get an incredible view of some of the local sights and upcoming developments. We ended our Melaka day browsing the shops of Jonker Street and looking at all of the quirkily designed taxi bikes.

Quiz Night
On Saturday evening five teams entered into the Boarding General Knowledge Quiz! They submitted their team names and then went head to head to become this academic year’s first quiz winner. There were three different rounds of questions covering a broad range of topics such as; Math Puzzles, Countries and Anagrams. It was a close call, but 60 questions later it was the Goreng Pisang (Banana Fritters) team won first prize.

Great British Bake Off Club
On Sunday morning nine boarders joined The Great British Bake Off Club. This entailed watching the popular cooking show which sees contestants take on three different baking challenges including; the Showstopper, the Technical and the Mystery Bake. Every fortnight the baking group will watch the programme to get some tips and then do some baking based on a theme from this show. The group took on a fruity challenge and made some delicious mini Victoria sponge cakes. Next week is ‘biscuit week’ so boarders will be designing and creating some tasty bites.
