Science Experiment: Coke with Mentos

Sep 19, 2018

Did you know that the Mentos' sugary surface has lots of microscopic holes called nucleation sites? Thanks to these sites, it enables the carbon dioxide in Coke to form large bubbles! Now, guess what happens when there's a rapid production of bubbles in the bottle? Well, you have to find out yourself! Once you do, you’d want to do this experiment all day long.

What you need
  • One roll of Mentos mints
  • One geyser tube
  • A 1.5 liter bottle of Coca-Cola
What to do
  1. Insert 4-5 Mentos mints into the geyser tube
  2. Close the geyser tube securely
  3. Open a bottle of Coca-Cola
  4. Seal the tube’s nozzle into the mouth of the bottle
  5. When ready, pull the trigger and step away
  6. Watch the high-pressured Coke geyser when the mints drop into the bottle
