Music and the PerforMing Arts

At Nexus International School Malaysia, learners are inspired to discover their creative voice and express themselves through music, drama, dance and film. With time dedicated both inside and outside the classroom, they are encouraged to experiment with new ideas, pursue their passions and build confidence through performance and collaboration.

Music and the
performing arts

An education in the arts not only nurtures creativity, but also deepens learners’ understanding of the world and enriches their perspective across all subjects. From classroom learning to school-wide productions such as the School of Rock or taking part in the annual Nexus Talent Show, every opportunity is designed to help them grow as performers, creators and storytellers.

Our purpose-built Music & Performing Arts Department provides the perfect stage for learners to shine. Facilities include:

  • Fully equipped 500-seat Theatre
  • Three Specialist Music Classrooms
  • Black Box Drama Studio
  • Professional Recording Studio
  • Film/Media Green Screen Classroom
  • Seven Private Instrumental Teaching Rooms
  • Multimedia Editing Suite
  • Mirrored Dance Studio

Music

At Nexus, Music nurtures creativity, collaboration and confidence. In Years 7–9, learners explore diverse genres from film and world music to jazz and minimalism, while developing skills in performance, composition and music technology. Each learner builds a portfolio that showcases their musical growth.

The Peripatetic Music Programme provides specialised one-to-one or small-group lessons with expert instrumental tutors in strings, woodwind, brass, percussion and voice. Scheduled during the school day, these sessions help learners refine their technical ability and musical expression.

Together, classroom and peripatetic lessons create a vibrant environment where learners perform, compose and collaborate. Through ensembles and concerts, they gain confidence, teamwork and a lifelong appreciation for the power of music.

Drama, DANCE
& Theatre

School productions, drama clubs and specialist workshops give learners the chance to explore storytelling, performance and stagecraft. Through drama, learners develop creativity, empathy and communication skills, while dance encourages expression, discipline and confidence. Theatre brings these elements together, offering a collaborative space where learners can shine on stage and behind the scenes.

Primary and Secondary school organises a production annually, while drama performances and external visits from theatre companies are organised throughout the year.

Media
& Film

Learners experiment with photography, film, sound and digital production, gaining skills in storytelling, editing and performance for the modern stage. Nexus learners have the opportunity to pursue Moving Arts & Image as an IGCSE Subject, and thereafter continue in IBDP Arts subjects.
