Learner Leadership
at Nexus
At Nexus International School Malaysia, we believe every learner has the potential to be a leader. Through a wide range of opportunities, learners are encouraged to take initiative, develop their voice and make meaningful contributions to the Nexus community and beyond. With more than 20 learner-led CCAs, they also gain hands-on experience in leadership, collaboration and project management.
Student Council
Our Primary and Secondary Student Councils play an active role in shaping school life. Elected by their peers, council members represent the learner voice, organise events and campaigns, and contribute to key initiatives that enhance the Nexus experience. They also take on the responsibility of representing learners at formal school events, building skills in leadership, communication and collaboration.
Learner Ambassadors
& Assembly Hosts
Primary students in Year 6, as part of their preparation for the transition to Secondary School and learners across Secondary, take turns to host the weekly assemblies for both Primary and Secondary. In additional to leading assemblies learners manage the tech box to ensure events run smoothly. Beyond assemblies, learners proudly serve as school ambassadors during Open Days, leading tours for prospective families, sharing their experiences and showcasing what makes Nexus unique. These opportunities empower learners to grow in confidence, public speaking and teamwork while developing a strong sense of pride in their school.
LEADING CCAs
Secondary learners, particularly those in Years 12 and 13 completing their CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) requirement are encouraged to lead co-curricular activities (CCAs) if they are passionate and knowledgeable in a subject area. From debate club, World Scholars Cup, STEM clubs, to sports CCAs, eco-club, yearbook and the Learner Bulletin, Nexus learners have taken the initiative to design, organise and run activities for their peers. These experiences not only build leadership and organisational skills but also give learners a taste of real-world responsibility. For Year 13 learners, these leadership experiences also serve as a valuable asset when applying to universities, showcasing initiative, commitment and the ability to contribute to a wider community.
Model United Nations
Nexus learners proudly organise and host one of the largest and most successful Model United Nations conferences in Malaysia annually, welcoming over 200 participants. From logistics and marketing to chairing debates and running social events, learners take full ownership of the conference. This remarkable initiative showcases their ability to lead, problem-solve and collaborate at scale, while engaging with global issues in a meaningful way.
