Residential Trips

Residential trips give learners at Nexus International School Malaysia the chance to step beyond the classroom, build independence and strengthen friendships. Through adventure, culture and service experiences, they grow in confidence, resilience and global citizenship.

Primary
Trips

Our residential programme begins in Year 3 with a 2-day, 1-night stay on the school grounds, gradually building confidence and independence. By Year 6, learners enjoy an extended 4-day, 3-night experience. Throughout the year, many day visits are organised to complement and enhance the curriculum, often sparking interest at the start of new topics—for example, a visit to Beryl’s Chocolate Factory in Year 4 for the ‘Chocolate Unit’.

Secondary
Trips

Our Secondary trips are designed to give learners rich, real-world experiences that connect directly with their studies, personal growth and the development of global citizenship. These trips provide opportunities to apply learning in authentic settings, deepen friendships, and build independence and resilience.
We run a large number of trips across the year in a range of curriculum areas:

  • STEM: Science and Maths Competitions and Conferences.
  • English and Creative Arts: Literature/Drama Experiences, Concerts, Gallery Visits and Conferences.
  • Sport and Outdoor Learning: Wide range of sports competitions and International Award exhibitions.
  • Humanities and Global Citizenship: Geography Fieldwork, Conferences and Service Learning Experiences.
  • IBDP: Various trips related to Internal Assessments and the CAS residential.

Creativity,
Activity
& Service (CAS)

The Creative, Activity and Service (CAS) trip, held in Year 12, is compulsory and a core part of the IB Diploma Programme that challenges learners beyond the classroom. Through Creativity, Activity and Service, learners take part in cultural immersion, outdoor adventure and meaningful community projects. The trip not only develops resilience, teamwork and global citizenship but also helps build strong friendships and collaboration among learners as they begin their IB Diploma journey together.

Challenge Week

For one week in Term 3, all Primary and Secondary learners take part in learning experiences beyond the classroom. These may include on-campus adventures, explorations in the local community, residential trips within Malaysia or even international opportunities. Each experience is designed to enrich the curriculum while developing the whole person, encouraging initiative, self-confidence, independence and active involvement. Attendance is compulsory, as every learner benefits from this valuable part of the Nexus journey.

Importantly, learners have the freedom to choose the challenge that excites them most, ensuring every experience is meaningful, personalised and empowering.

Outdoor Adventures

Learners take on hiking, kayaking, scuba diving, surfing or camping challenges that build resilience, teamwork and leadership skills.

Service Projects

Partnering with local NGOs or community groups, learners have the opportunity to engage in beach clean-ups, environmental restoration or teaching English to refugee children.

Cultural Immersion

Trips that allow learners to experience local traditions, food and heritage, helping them appreciate diversity and global citizenship.

STEM Challenges

Hands-on problem-solving activities such as designing eco-solutions, building prototypes or taking part in robotics workshops.

Creative Experiences

Learners can explore the arts through performing arts, visual arts, music or creative writing workshops, developing self-expression and collaboration skills.

Sports & Wellness

Opportunities to take part in sports clinics, team competitions or wellness-focused activities that encourage healthy living, discipline and teamwork.

Sustainability Initiatives

Projects focusing on conservation, such as mangrove planting, wildlife protection or sustainable farming experiences.
