Duke of Edinburgh
International Awards
At Nexus International School Malaysia, we are proud to deliver the world’s leading youth achievement programme, the Duke of Edinburgh International Award. The Award challenges young people to step beyond the classroom, discover their strengths and grow into confident, responsible global citizens.
Through service, skills, physical activities and adventurous trips participants build resilience, independence and a lifelong sense of achievement, while making a positive impact on their community and future.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s
International Award
Since its launch 60 years ago, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award has inspired millions of young people to transform their lives. Through non-formal education, the Award can play a critical role in a young person’s personal development.
The Award is offered to Nexus Year 9 to 13 learners and is structured at three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold, each requiring participants to complete four sections: Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and an Adventurous Journey. At Gold level, learners also take on a Residential Project where they live and work away from home for 4 nights with people they do not already know, designed to broaden their horizons through shared experiences.
Service
The Service section of the Award encourages young people to volunteer their time to and understand the benefits of this service to their community.
Skills
By taking part in activities such as sports, fitness, cooking, camping and more, learners build resilience, gain independence and discover the value of developing lifelong skills.
Physical Recreation
The Physical Recreation section of the Award encourages young people to participate in sport and other physical recreation for the improvement of health and fitness.
Adventurous Journey
In small teams, learners plan, train for and complete an expedition in an unfamiliar environment, an experience that develops independence, problem-solving and teamwork.
Residential Journey
At Gold level, learners take part in a shared residential experience, working alongside others to broaden their horizons, strengthen relationships and embrace new challenges.
