Why Nexus Boarding?

living and learning the nexus way

AWARD-WINNING boarding experience

At Nexus, boarders become part of a close-knit community of over 120 learners  from around the world, creating strong friendships and a genuine sense of belonging. Recognised as the “International School of the Year 2023” for boarding excellence and provision of English language support by the Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA), our on campus Boarding facilities are continually improving and striving for excellence.

ABSA, with its diverse membership of boarding schools across Australia and overseas, is the world’s leading association for boarding, ensuring the highest levels of care and best practice.

qualified & TRAINED
HOUSEPARENTS

Our dedicated Director of Boarding leads a caring team of House Parents – all qualified teachers or nurses – who support the pastoral and social well-being of every learner on each floor. They are trained to offer the highest level of care through the Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA).

Alongside this all boarding staff receive safeguarding training with our Director of Boarding who also serves as one of the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads to ensure best practices are consistently followed.

24-hour security & healthcare

Nexus prioritises the safety and well-being of every boarder with 24-hour security personnel and a robust security system that allows learners to explore the campus safely and confidently. Regular in-person check-ins and the Boarding House security app, Orah, help staff monitor learners’ well-being. Parents and boarding staff can view a learner’s location at any time, giving them peace of mind that learners are safe and well cared for.

Alongside this there is an infirmary within the Boarding house staffed by a registered nurse to safeguard the health and wellbeing of all our boarders.

extensive boarding services

At the end of each term, boarders are escorted by our uniformed boarding team to the airport to ensure a safe and stress-free journey home. Learners are supervised right up to check-in, where they are handed over to an airline chaperone or a family member. Nexus Boarding also works with a partner to provide dedicated airport escort service (available for an additional fee), providing supervision all the way to the departure gates for extra peace of mind.

In addition, the boarding house offers a comprehensive range of services including regular laundry, nutritious meals (remove comma) and daily care creating a comfortable, supportive, and well-managed living environment for every boarder.

dedicated english language support

We offer dedicated English as an Additional Language (EAL) support in Boarding, designed to help learners gain confidence and fluency in a supportive environment. Our comprehensive Boarding EAL Programme includes 1:1 daily reading sessions, small group classes, focused speaking practice and regular conversation time to strengthen communication skills and support English acquisition.

Beyond structured lessons, boarding staff actively create opportunities for learners to use English in everyday contexts, from activities and mealtimes to social interactions, helping them build language skills naturally and thrive both academically and socially.

diverse boarding community

Nexus Boarding House is a small, close-knit community from over 15 countries including Malaysia, China, UK, Korea, India, Japan and Bangladesh. All new Boarders are arranged a ‘home language buddy’ to welcome them and make them feel at home, while our multilingual staff make the transition from home to boarding life welcoming and supportive.

Pastoral care is at the heart of life at Nexus Boarding. The Boarding House runs like one big family, with staff on each floor who know the boarders well and are trained to notice if anyone needs extra support. Thoughtful rules, like limiting device use for younger learners at certain times, encourage meaningful communication and stronger peer connections.

peer to peer boarding programme

We focus on helping boarders feel at home while building a strong sense of community. Peer-to-peer connections are at the heart of this, with learners welcoming new boarders, taking part in group activities and learning from one another. Weekly house meetings provide a space to share important messages and celebrate leadership. Boarders can nominate each other for acts of kindness, which are warmly recognised and rewarded.

Leadership and collaboration are encouraged through activities such as joining the Boarding Council to help plan events, baking a cake for a friend’s birthday, helping with homework or even teaching each other how to cook favourite recipes from home. It’s all about creating a caring, supportive environment where everyone can contribute, share and feel they truly belong.

strong parent partnership

We understand that clear, open communication with parents is essential to a successful boarding experience. In addition to staying in regular contact with their child, families have direct access to our Director of Boarding and House Parents whenever needed. We also use a dedicated boarding app, Orah, to track each learner’s location, ensuring that both staff and parents are always informed and reassured.

To keep families closely connected to boarding life, our team sends out regular newsletters with updates and photos, while every school report includes personalised insights into your child’s experience as a boarder.

weekend & evening activities

Boarders enjoy a diverse range of social and recreational experiences, from lively BBQ nights and shopping trips to exciting excursions around Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

service learning weekends

Boarders have the opportunity to make a positive impact through a variety of community service experiences, including beach clean-ups and volunteering at orphanages. These activities build empathy, leadership and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

sports & outdoor activities

Our exclusive boarding sports programme runs after school and on weekends, encouraging boarders to stay active and develop teamwork. Activities include on-campus sports as well as regular trips to nearby parks and wetlands.

academic support

We support academic success through dedicated study weekends, supervised library sessions and targeted help from subject specialists. Boarders also benefit from peer-to-peer guidance, creating a collaborative learning environment that helps them achieve their best.

mother tongue language support

To help boarders feel at home and communicate with ease, our Houseparents can converse in Korean, Japanese, and Mandarin. This additional layer of care helps new boarders settle quickly while continuing to develop their native language skills.

leadership & boarding council

Leadership skills are nurtured through the Boarding Council, where boarders plan activities, share feedback and collaborate on initiatives that shape their boarding community. These opportunities build confidence, teamwork and a strong sense of responsibility.
