Nexus International School Malaysia Leads the Conversation on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in International Education
On Friday, 25 April 2025, Nexus International School Malaysia had the privilege of hosting the FOBISIA JAWS: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) conference, a pivotal event that brought together over 30 educators from leading international schools across Malaysia, Thailand, and South Korea.
Setting the Stage: The Power of Inclusive Education
Nexus Educators at the Forefront
A highlight of the day was the strong presence of Nexus educators, who led sessions that reflected deep expertise and a clear commitment to inclusive, learner-centered education. Their contributions were grounded in real-world classroom experience and offered participants actionable, research-informed strategies.
- Marianne Dark & Wenyi Chu shared insights on Supporting students transitioning from traditional, exam-oriented systems, offering practical ways to ease academic and emotional transitions for learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Jared Wilson explored Creating psychologically safe learning environments, focusing on how trust and emotional safety underpin engagement, achievement, and student wellbeing.
These sessions showcased the thoughtful, progressive practice that defines teaching at Nexus and demonstrated how our educators actively shape the conversation around diversity, equity, and inclusion in international education.
A Rich Exchange of Ideas
The conference featured diverse voices from across the region, including:
- Alex Gellersen (North London Collegiate School Jeju) – Everyday practices for social justice in schools
- Laura Rooney (Regents International School Pattaya) – Student-led approaches to EDI
- Sofia Keigher (Brighton College International School Bangkok) – Adaptive teaching through pupil passports
- Rohita Menon (North London Collegiate School Jeju) – Movement-based STEM strategies for inclusive learning
- Gabby Green (New Global Normal) – Empowering Third Culture Kids to lead intercultural understanding initiatives
The diversity of perspectives reinforced a shared truth: while school contexts may differ, the need for inclusive, responsive education is universal.
Championing Change, One Classroom at a Time
At Nexus, DEI is not just a concept, it is woven into the fabric of how we teach, lead, and learn. We are proud of our teachers who continue to lead by example, demonstrating how thoughtful pedagogy and inclusive practice can transform lives.
Hosting this conference reaffirmed our belief that educators are powerful agents of change, and that when we come together with purpose and openness, we can drive meaningful progress across borders and classrooms.
