From Nexus to Oxford

We are extremely proud of our Nexus Year 13 learner, Keith Tan, who has recently received an offer from the University of Oxford to pursue Biomedical Sciences.

Keith joined Nexus in 2011 and has consistently demonstrated excellence both academically and as a leader. Throughout his time at school, he has embraced opportunities that reflect the breadth and depth of the Nexus experience.

He has taken on key leadership roles in Nexus Model United Nations (MUN), the school’s largest learner-led conference, bringing together more than 200 participants from across Malaysia. Through MUN, Keith honed his skills in research, diplomacy, public speaking and collaboration, qualities which are highly valued by leading universities.

Beyond MUN, Keith also founded and led an Applied Calculus Club as part of the Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) component of the IB Diploma Programme. By mentoring fellow IB learners and fostering a culture of academic collaboration, he demonstrated initiative, leadership and a commitment to service.

The IB Diploma Programme at Nexus challenges learners with academic rigour while developing them holistically through its core components — Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS). These elements encourage learners to think critically, conduct independent research, engage meaningfully with their communities and grow beyond the classroom.

Through this balanced approach, learners develop the intellectual confidence, resilience and leadership skills that not only strengthen university applications, but also prepare them to excel in interviews and thrive in competitive global institutions.

Keith’s journey reflects the powerful combination of academic excellence, character development and leadership opportunities that defines a Nexus education, equipping learners not just for university admission, but for success beyond it.
