James Tosdevin, a teacher from Nexus International School Malaysia has been selected as one of only eight educators across Asia for the prestigious FOBISIA Fellowship Programme 2025–2026, reinforcing the school’s growing leadership in digital learning and innovation.
James was awarded the fellowship in recognition of his research exploring how artificial intelligence can support deeper thinking in the classroom. Through the programme, he joins a network of educators across Asia contributing to conversations surrounding the future of learning and the meaningful use of AI in education.
As part of the fellowship, James explored how educational technology can be used purposefully to support classroom learning and learner development. Using Google Gemini’s Guided Learning tool, learners were encouraged to reflect on their learning experiences, think more deeply about challenges and develop greater awareness of how they learn best.
Through guided prompts and classroom discussions, learners gradually developed increased confidence, independence and ownership of their learning journeys.
Rather than introducing technology for its own sake, the project focused on how AI-powered learning tools can enhance reflective learning strategies and support meaningful learner growth.
As artificial intelligence continues to shape universities, workplaces and everyday life, schools play an increasingly important role in helping learners use technology thoughtfully, ethically and creatively.
At Nexus International School Malaysia, AI is used to support deeper thinking, collaboration and independent learning — not replace human connection or teaching. By combining innovative teaching approaches with strong pastoral care and learner engagement, the school helps students develop future-ready skills that extend beyond the classroom.
This balanced approach to digital learning reflects Nexus’s commitment to preparing learners for a rapidly changing world.
James recently presented an overview of the project at the 32nd FOBISIA Leadership Conference in Kuala Lumpur, contributing to wider conversations surrounding AI in education across international schools in Asia.

He will also continue sharing his findings through an upcoming webinar and a feature article in the FOBISIAN magazine, helping educators across the region explore innovative teaching practices and learner-centred approaches to technology in education.
The fellowship provides valuable opportunities for collaboration with educators across Asia, allowing teachers to exchange ideas, share experiences and contribute to the future of teaching and learning within the FOBISIA network.
The fellowship also reflects how Nexus International School Malaysia supports teachers through continuous professional development opportunities and encourages educators to keep growing their skills, collaborating with peers and exploring new ideas in education.
Through opportunities such as the FOBISIA Fellowship, teachers at Nexus are empowered to develop future-ready teaching approaches and bring fresh, engaging learning experiences into the classroom.
This continued investment in teacher growth strengthens learner outcomes while fostering a culture of innovation, curiosity and lifelong learning across the school community.

As learners became more familiar with reflective learning strategies, they developed greater independence and confidence in managing their own learning experiences — helping build important lifelong skills that will support them well beyond school.
Opportunities such as the FOBISIA Fellowship reflect Nexus International School Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to innovation, digital learning and meaningful applications of AI in education.
By empowering teachers to lead in their fields and explore emerging teaching practices, Nexus continues to create engaging learning environments designed to prepare learners for the future.
