Boarders Excel at Soloists’ Concert

Tuesday, March 20, 2018
Last Thursday evening many of us watched some of our fellow boarders perform at the School Soloists’ Concert in the Theatre. We were treated to superb performances by all involved, including a solo piece from violinist Yvonne, Dening and Khoo who both played violin as members of the Nexus String Quartet), Jeffrey who performed a Piano Solo and Khoo again who played Be My Guest from Beauty and the Beast on the violin. To witness boarders (and day learners) perform in front of a useful audience after many hours of practise in the evenings and weekends was heartwarming.

A special mention also to the many boarders who helped behind the scenes to ensure the evening was a success.

Archery Tag & Zorb Ball
Ms Bobby & Ms Rebecca transported two van loads of boarders for an afternoon of active fun at Arena 51 in Petaling Jaya. Archery Tag is  a phenomenal new concept in friendly combat sports utilising archery with specially designed foam tipped arrows to play the game. The intense battle between two strategically selected teams was exhilarating and there were many accurate shots being fired in what proved a hot and sweaty exercise.

Afterwards, some had the opportunity to play Bubble Football which is similar to playing a futsal match, except those who played were wearing the Bubble Balls. There are no outs, no fouls and the match involved 'banging' opponents as hard as possible so that they don't score.
The boys’ especially enjoyed the rough and tumble contact that they could exert on each other over the duration of their game.

Pizza Making
Ms Bobby organised an evening of pizza making for those who were feeling hungry and creative. The pre-made pizza bases were decorated with a variety of toppings including the ‘much treasured’ smooth and delicate Mild Cheddar Cheese hand-delivered from New Zealand by Ms Bobby herself (following her week long holiday to NZ over the Chinese New Year break). Jun even improvised making a super-sweet pizza topped with peanut butter, chocolate chips, banana, caramel syrup and nutella which was adored by many of us.
