Secondary Overview

The Secondary Department at Nexus International School maintains the philosophy developed in the Primary years. However, the learning programme at this level becomes slightly more specialised; based on subject disciplines and developing greater independence of thought, identity and value systems. Technology continues to be integrated into all facets of learning at the Secondary level. The Secondary School makes provision for learners from Years 7-9 (the Middle School Programme), Years 10-11 (IGCSE) and Years 12-13 (the IB Diploma Programme).
The Secondary Curriculum is designed to challenge learners to think independently and apply knowledge to real-life situations through the range of subjects offered. As children progress through Years 7 to 9, they become self-motivated and enquiring learners, ready to take on the challenges of the IGCSE examination courses and then subsequently the IB Diploma.
Based on our belief that learners need both breadth and depth in their educational experience to thrive in the world, Nexus gives young people ample opportunity to explore their interests through its broad and balanced programme of study.
This extensive curriculum is taught by highly qualified specialist teachers who make full use of the school’s superb specialist facilities for subject teaching in the arts, sciences, sport, and modern languages.
Assessment is an important element of learning. Teachers at Nexus International School employ a wide range of formative and summative assessment techniques for different purposes.
Years 7 to 9 - Middle School Programme:
The curriculum that we offer at Nexus International School for Years 7-9 is based on international standards and is taught around 'Big Ideas' or concepts. The curriculum has been designed to prepare learners for IGCSE in terms of foundation subject knowledge and IBDP in terms of international  mindedness, independent and critical thinking skills.
Years 10 and 11 - International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE):

In Years 10 and 11, Nexus International School learners follow a broad range of subjects at IGCSE level. These examinations are internationally recognised and provide a rigorous preparation for the IB Diploma and other pre-University courses.
