IB Diploma Subject Choices

At Nexus International School Malaysia, we are proud to offer one of the widest ranges of IBDP subjects in Malaysia, giving learners the flexibility to personalise their studies, pursue their passions, and prepare for success at university and beyond. The IBDP’s unique breadth encourages students to explore a wide range of disciplines including Sciences, Mathematics, Languages, Arts, and Humanities, while also completing its three core components, the Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS).

Learners tailor their individual pathways by selecting three Higher Level (HL) and three Standard Level (SL) subjects, guided by their strengths, interests and future aspirations. Together, these elements nurture critical thinking, independence and global-mindedness, equipping Nexus learners with the knowledge, skills and versatility to excel at leading universities worldwide.

CORE Subjects

Coursework based and non-examined subjects.

Theory Of Knowledge (TOK)

Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is where learners explore how knowledge is constructed, questioned and justified across different areas of knowledge and perspectives. It develops critical thinking by encouraging learners to reflect on the nature and limits of knowledge.

Extended Essay (EE)

The Extended Essay (EE) is an independent, 4,000-word research project that allows learners to investigate a topic of personal interest in depth, developing their research and academic writing skills. Each learner is supported by a Supervisor who meets with them regularly to guide their progress and provide feedback.

Creativity, Activity, Service (Cas)

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is the experiential learning component of the IB that encourages learners to engage in creative pursuits, physical activity and meaningful service to the community. At the start of Year 12, all learners take part in a CAS trip that builds teamwork and reflection skills, setting the foundation for their ongoing CAS journey.
