End of term fun at Elephant Sanctuary

Tuesday, April 10, 2018
The last weekend activity of the term was certainly a busy and exciting one.
We headed off early Saturday morning on the coach to the National Elephant Conservation Centre, Kuala Gandah, Pahang. On arrival, we watched a video in the auditorium that explained how and why the elephants are rescued and as a result they end up living at the Sanctuary. This was very interesting and set us up with the knowledge we needed before we got to go and see the elephants first hand.
Firstly, we watched them being bathed in the water by the mahouts which was very interesting and it great to see them enjoying their surroundings. We were then taken by our guide to the showground where each elephant was introduced and we got to learn details about them such as their age, how heavy they weighed as well as what their favourite food was!
A group of boarders decided that they would like to go into the water with the elephants and wash them; they had a brilliant experience and loved being able to get so close to the huge elephants and have a splash around.
Finally, our day ended by seeing the younger elephants and feeding them some melon and nuts. An enjoyable and unforgettable day was had by all and even a couple of boarders have already enquired about becoming a volunteer for the Sanctuary.
Sunday was rather relaxing as the normal shopping mall trips went ahead and in the evening many boys and girls took part in an Easter Egg Hunt, where they had to solve various riddles to win some prizes - chocolate of course.

Charity Spring Concert
Many boarders were involved both on stage and backstage at the Charity Spring Concert which was held in conjunction with Nexus celebrating its 10th Year Anniversary. Proceeds from the highly anticipated evening were donated to Rumah Keluarga Kami and the Autism Cafe Project.
Khoo, Dening, Yvonne featured in the String Orchestra while Rene performed in the Harp Ensemble and Miles and Kim in the Brass Ensemble. All Year 5 to 9 boarders were members of bands, drum groups, orchestras or choirs.
