Math Parent Workshop

On Tuesday 14th February, Nexus International School held a workshop for parents on 'Understanding Maths calculation strategies.'
The workshop included: how to develop a positive attitude towards learning Maths, understanding our Maths curriculum and how to support your child at home. One of the main aims of the workshop was to help parents understand how methods have changed over the years. During the workshop, Tom Hay, Leader for Maths and Rob Holmes, Milepost 3 Leader demonstrated how we teach multiplication from Year 1 to Year 6. Parents participated in the demonstration and were able to see that through using manipulatives and partitioning numbers, learners have a better understanding of the multiplication problems they are solving.
The workshop was well attended with very positive feedback. We will follow this up at the beginning of the next academic year with workshops detailing Maths coverage in individual year groups.
