Air resistance investigation - Y2

For our IPC unit 'From A to B', Year 2 learners were investigating which materials have the highest air resistance through the lens of Science. The learners wanted to work out what material they should use for the sail to make their boats go the furthest.They decided to look at: tin foil, paper, plastic bags, bandages and cotton wool. Using their enquiry skills, they discovered that paper created the most air resistance, which meant this boat travelled the furthest and that the bandages had the lowest air resistance because it had holes in it which allowed air to travel through it. So if you are building a sail in the future, make sure you do not use a bandage or anything with holes in it as this means it has a low air resistance.
