Catch of the Day Challenge

Monday, March 4, 2019
Many of our boarders were required to wake up relatively early for a Saturday morning as they ventured out with Mr Ariff and Mr David H to spend most of the day on a Hook N’ Release Fishing Expedition in Sepang, which was organised by Trapeze Learning Lab.

We had nice views of the scenery during the hour long journey to the natural man made pond where we took the old village road which contained many local fruit plantations.

On arrival guide Mr Shafie welcomed us and explained to us about the “dream” that he had during his childhood of providing a fishing pond for the public to utilise.

As this was the first time for some trying out this popular hobby, and on arrival everybody was inducted about Sustainable Fishing and the Importance of Conservation, How to Cast a Line Effectively, Responsible Fishing and Maintaining Healthy Ecosystems and the most fun part of the day, a real fishing experience of Hook N’ Release.

In hot and sticky conditions, everybody was split into two teams where boys and girls competed for prizes. All were taught how to set up the fishing tackle gear including which lures were required to catch the different types of fish.

Wenhao displayed a very good casting technique and Hana really enjoyed the lure fishing, showing great determination throughout the day. Our birthday girl Izzah managed to catch the biggest fish which weighed a whopping 11.2 kilograms, winning a Shimano shirt and hamper.

In between a morning snack, lunch and plenty of rehydration breaks, the prizes that were awarded throughout the day as well as the excitement of catching different species of fish kept everybody focused and enthused throughout the day.
