IB Boarders display Italian style culinary skills

Monday, February 18, 2019
Last Saturday was IB Boarders Choice for the weekend activity which enabled our cohort to select and take part in anything we liked (within reason). We unanimously asked to attend a Cooking Class in which Ms Bobby organised one of our parents, Ms Toni to teach us about preparing, cooking and presenting a selection of food. I thought that we were going to a cooking academy to learn but to my surprise we because it was a house kitchen. With twelve of us in total excited to eat freshly made Italian home food, on arrival we were given a chefs hat to wear for hygiene purposes. We were introduced to dough making with many attempts mixing the ingredients and water to produce the perfect texture. After we finished making the dough, we ripened it for a while by covering the dough mixture.

Beforehand we decided to divide up into teams to make pizza, doughnuts, tacos as well as to set the table, with everybody given a responsibility. The tacos especially were absolutely fantastic. Besides the food we cooked, there was a variety of other snack food which Ms. Toni prepared for us.
It was so good listening to others tell stories while eating the delicious food with Ms Toni and her family. Following dinner we listened to Khoo’s piano performance while it rained heavily outside. The sound of the rain and the tune from the piano were perfect harmony. This was a great afternoon out and we would like to thank Ms Toni and her family for hosting us all.

Our younger boarders had the chance to relax in the afternoon while their older peers were out, however after a dinner treat of Domino’s pizza, a compulsory game of Dodgeball was held in the Sports Hall. There were some fast and fierce balls being hurled by each other and the athleticism and competitiveness displayed by all was superb.

Before the Lunar New Year break many boarders signed up to a variety of activities as part of our Wellbeing Program that commenced last week. Boarders opted for Colouring Sessions, Board Games, Morning and Afternoon Walks, Evening Yoga or Swimming, and Early Morning Tabata which will allow them to relax, relieve any stress or increase fitness levels throughout this term and beyond.

The Boarding Eco-Council have introduced a recycling competition in which every Monday after school, the collected recycled waste from each of our floors will be checked for any contamination. If the bag of waste is able to be recycled, the bag will be weighed and the weight recorded on our display board in the main common area. At the end of each month, the floor who has managed to collect the most ‘clean’ recycling will be rewarded with a ‘Pizza Prize Night’.
