Looking out for ‘The Voice’

On Saturday, Miss Melanie and Mr Phil accompanied a large group of learners from the Boarding House to Platinum Superstar Karaoke at Alamanda.

This was a Boarders Council Choice which was chosen by members of the house, and it became apparent upon arrival that all were very excited to put their singing skills to the test.

We ordered lots of tasty snacks and settled into our own private rooms where we witnessed a mixture of songs and singing abilities. At times, some singing may have been a little painful on our ears, but it would be fair to say that we all had a fantastic time and well done to everybody who had the courage to sing in front of their peers.

On Sunday, Mr Troy took a van full of senior boarders to help other volunteers at Tzu Chi Recycling Centre. Following a brief introduction about the 5 R’s - Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle, everybody got their hands dirty segregating and then packaging plenty of recycled waste. Philip, Michael, Logan and Takuto enjoyed squashing the huge amount of aluminium cans while the rest of us spent time sharing stories with members of the public as we worked tirelessly all through the morning.

There was certainly a sense of satisfaction and contribution to the society once we had finished.

Last week our House Basketball Final was played between Pika Pika and Nyaga Nyaga. The tense and enthralling match played in front of a jovial crowd of staff and boarders displayed excellent teamwork and skill from both sides. Pika Pika whose best players were Dening, Kim M and Philip potted some vital free throws towards the end as they won 41-36 to be crowned this year's Basketball Champions. Park, Lancelot and Ayla were the best players for the runners-up.
