Following the successful IB Residential Weekend in the Boarding House, all boarders were welcomed back for the beginning of the academic year. We had twenty one new boarders join us, who were assigned their ‘buddies’ and throughout the week we were all impressed on how quickly they were adjusting to boarding life.

On Wednesday, boarders had a ‘day off’ due to the Hari Raya Haji Public Holiday and all Year 5 to 10 boys and girls played an exciting game of softball on the field in humid conditions. Later on in the evening, many took up the opportunity to swim which will continue to be an evening activity on the Boarding calendar.

A Boarding Council was introduced with boarders from the respective floors (Schubert, Martin, Griffiths and Hampshire) electing a Floor Captain and a Floor Vice-Captain who will have roles and responsibilities within their floors, as well as representing the Boarding Council for the entire house.

The Council will be responsible for things such as organising house events, gathering feedback from their peers to make a positive impact within boarding, host a segment at both Floor and House meetings and engage in environmental protection initiatives.
The Boarding Council selected for term one are: Khoo, Shaq, Matin, Ejaz, Durra, Emily, Zen Mae and Lillian.

From the beginning of this term SHF our school caterers, will provide all meals for the Boarding House. We will have a three week menu cycle which will offer variety and our Food Committee will provide monthly feedback to our food providers. A food survey will be distributed to boarders by half-term so changes, if required can be made.

Our first weekend together began on Saturday afternoon with everybody travelling by coach to MyTown Shopping Mall for an afternoon of retail therapy. Prior to the trip, each floor in the Boarding House were given a budget to purchase decorative items for them to add to their respective floors. It was superb to see the collaboration and interesting suggestions beforehand, as well as seeing the boys particularly, make collective decisions in stores such as IKEA, Kaison and Spotlight.

On Sunday, the highly anticipated Wacky Sunday took place, enabling all boarders to participate in team-building exercises and fun games. Well done to the Boarding Council for organising such an entertaining and invaluable afternoon where we all got to find out more about each other.
