Term 2 Week 11

King Kong Skull Island & Shopping
Ms Scout and Ms Leilah accompanied the boarders to the Mid Valley Megamall to watch the newly released fantasy/science fiction film King Kong Skull Island. It was a fascinating film, and although some scenes were slightly exaggerated, everybody certainly enjoyed watching. Afterwards there was some time left to do some shopping and purchase some Starbucks or McDonalds.

MUN Conference
Last weekend, a delegation of Nexus International School learners attended the annual prestigious EOSMUN conference which was held in IGB International School in Sg Buloh. A handful of them were from the boarding house, which consisted four first timers. The theme of the conference was “Leap of Faith” which encouraged learners new to MUN, and for the existing delegates to conquer their fears and literally step up and speak to an audience. Without any doubt, this conference really conquered the fears of many, including our fellow Nexus delegates. The delegates from boarding were Shaq, Idris, Hafiz, Danish R, Lee Zhuo and myself.

It was my fourth conference that I had attended, and I was proud to have won my first MUN award. The many Nexus Delegates took part in a variety of committees available such as the European Union, discussing the recent Brexit and immigration in the EU, the Arab League, discussing the Syrian War and the Disarmament and International Security, discussing the use of chemical weapons. There were many other options to take part in.

The weekend was extremely beneficial and I would persuade everyone to take part in the future MUN conferences to either conquer your fears, make new friends and most importantly, have fun!

Nexus Boarding Singles Pool Competition
This years competition attracted twenty participants who have played over the last six Monday and Wednesday evenings. Four pools of five players were organised and following the round robin stage, Austin, Kanishka, Aaron and Kee Kang were the players to proceed to the semi-finals. Kanishka and Aaron played superbly and strategically at times to qualify for the final. In a best of three challenge for the trophy, both players displayed intense concentration and gamesmanship with Kanishka winning the deciding match.

A special thanks must be made to all competitors, particularly Dhruvi and Wendy who performed well throughout the tournament.
A doubles table tennis competition which will run through into next term has been organised.

Under 18 Basketball
Aaron, Dening, Alex O and Aiman represented the Nexus at the KLISS (Kuala Lumpur International School Sports) competition last week. The team managed to finish third overall after a gruelling day with two wins and three losses.
