Rumah Keluarga Kami Children Visit

Last weekend was slightly different to normal, rather than the boarders going out on an activity, they instead hosted a fun filled day of games for the children from Rumah Keluarga Kami to enjoy. Everybody put in a great amount of effort to plan and lead the day to ensure that everyone was enjoying themselves. The day started with some ice breaker activities (including some very interesting dancing), as we then moved onto the sports hall for some sweaty dodgeball, a treasure hunt around the boarding house, finishing off with some cycling and football.

After we all enjoyed each other's company over dinner together a prize giving ceremony was held with the mixed teams winning prizes for taking part in the different events. The way in which the day was organized and the interaction between everyone was phenomenal, the boarders who facilitated the day showed great leadership, communication and teamwork skills, as well as making friends and having a good fun along the way. We all look forward to the next RKK visit!

We kicked off Sunday morning with another edition of Breakfast Club led by Mr Dan. This week, back by popular demand, many made Shakshuka, a North African & Middle Eastern Baked Egg Breakfast/Brunch Dish. It is a one pan, easy but very delicious dish which can be made quickly and at a low cost which is extremely appealing especially to those who are heading off to Tertiary Education next year.

Sporting Success

Our boarding athletes awoke early last Friday to travel to the Panasonic Stadium to compete in the KLISS Athletic Championships. Those who were selected had won their respective events at the Nexus Sports Day earlier this term.

After an arduous day in the sun the following boarders returned home with medals:

Name Age Group Event Position Event Position
Reena Under 13 Girls High Jump 2nd 1500m 3rd
Jun Over 18 Girls 200m 2nd
Victoria Over 18 Girls Shot Put 1st
Kim Under 15 Boys Discus 1st Shot Put 3rd
Ayla Under 15 Girls High Jump 3rd
Danish Over 15 Boys High Jump 1st Long Jump 2nd
Michael Over 15 Boys Discus 3rd

Due to their success on Friday, Kim (discus) and Victoria’s (shot put) throwing distances were recorded and earned them a gold medal at the ISAC Championships as well. Congratulations to all competitors who again represented Nexus with pride.

ISAC Boys’ Badminton

Maheem claimed a silver medal for the boys’ school badminton team who competed in an ISAC Badminton Tournament last week.

Netball

Plenty of girls were busy over the course of last week playing for their respective age-group netball teams at Epsom. Well done to Jun, Victoria, Elisa, Grace, Ayla, Agnia, Reena who performed admirably.

February Birthday Celebrations

Boarders who celebrated their birthday last month were treated to a scrumptious chocolate cake during morning break last week.

Visitors enjoy their stay

We hosted Primary staff and students from Uplands School Penang last week as they were competing in a Maths Challenge which was being held at Nexus. Some of the visiting students shared bedrooms with our boarders and it was a brilliant opportunity for us to associate with the younger children, sharing stories and showing off our hospitality skills as well as our facilities.
