Tom believes that effective teaching and learning can improve the abilities of every learner, no matter the subject or the learner’s starting point. He promotes this growth with a collaborative classroom climate that combines personalised learning with challenge and self-reflection. Tom’s background is in law and having retrained as a teacher he taught for three years in Moray, Scotland before joining Nexus. He enjoys family time, swimming and strategic gaming, both online and over the board. He teaches chess both for enjoyment and the skills and dispositions it promotes in learners. Chess can help develop thinking processes, patience, discipline and respect and allows learners to find their own creative solutions to problems. Most of all it is fun!
